Uniting for Ukraine

The Ukrainian flag flies above Independence Square - “The Maidan” - during the revolution of 2013-14.

President Biden announced a “streamlined process” for Ukrainians desiring to enter the US under parole. See https://www.dhs.gov/news/2022/04/21/president-biden-announce-uniting-ukraine-new-streamlined-process-welcome-ukrainians. The process requires the beneficiary to obtain a US sponsor to vouch for them. The income level is fairly low. The sponsor applies on line and the beneficiary supposedly receives an email when the sponsorship is approved, telling them what do next and what exams and documents they need.

“We are proud to deliver on President Biden’s commitment to welcome 100,000 Ukrainians and others fleeing Russian aggression to the United States. The Ukrainian people continue to suffer immense tragedy and loss as a result of Putin’s unprovoked and unjustified attack on their country,” said Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

It is not known how long the processing will take, or whether the numbers will be increased.
